Akrona Galleries is an exciting fine arts addition to the greater Akron community. At Akrona Galleries we offer quality art school experiences and knowledge at a workably high level for the serious artist and hobbyist. Our curriculum is open to all ability levels and interests – led by nationally known artist, Elinore M. Korow, OWS, ASA, WAL.
Calendar:
All courses are designed to 3 hours per session for 8 weeks.
Students are responsible for their own supplies. Work will be done from live models, photographs, still lifes, and one class includes a “field trip” to the Akron Art Museum or Cleveland Museum of Art.
Class Days: Tuesdays: 1-4pm
Thursdays: 9am-12pm / 1pm-4pm.
Fridays: 9am-12pm / 1pm-4pm.
Classes Begin Week of October 21th, 2008, through Dec. 19th.
(no classes Thanksgiving week, Nov. 25th, 27th & 28th)
Tuition: $360 (*plus small model fee), for each 8 week course-Total Hours: 24.
Course Descriptions:
I. Introduction to Pastel (Tues., Oct. 21th, 1-4 pm through Dec. 16th)
A brief history of the use of pastels through the past 300 years. Basic techniques. Demonstrations. For beginning to intermediate students. Students responsible for own Supplies. *Live Models.
II. Figure and Portrait Drawing (Thurs. Oct 23 through Dec 18th, 9 am.-12 pm.)
Graphite and Conté Crayon. Polish your skills in drawing. An essential basic course and prelude to painting in any medium. Various wonderful techniques. Beginning to advanced students. Students responsible for own supplies.
*Live Models.
III. Charcoal Drawing (Thurs. Oct. 23 through Dec. 18th, 1 – 4 pm)
Either / or with the morning class.
Traditional and experimental charcoal drawing: Landscapes, still lifes, and *figures. Course is offered to further polish student’s drawing skills. Students responsible for own supplies.
IV. Beginning Oil Painting (Fridays, Oct 24th through Dec. 19th, 9 am – 12 pm)
Brief history of oil painting. Learn to handle a most beautiful and magical technique, also one of the easiest to learn. All the rest, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, etc. spin off from what you will learn here. The course will include a “field trip” to the Akron or Cleveland Art museums. We will cover landscapes, still lifes, *figures and portrait painting. Demonstrations. Students are responsible for their own supplies.
V. Intermediate to Advanced Pastel (Fridays, Oct. 24th through Dec. 19th, 1 – 4 pm)
Reinforcement of earlier pastel studies. Introduction to mixed techniques: pastels with other mediums, ex: Pastel over watercolor. Demonstrations. Students responsible for own supplies. * Live models.
(there will be no classes the week of Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, 27 & 28)
Instructors Biography:
Elinore M. Korow, OWS, ASA
Elinore Korow is a nationally known portrait artist. She has shown at The Butler Museum of American Art, The Massillon Art Museum, The Canton Art Institute, The National Academy of Design (New York City), The World Trade Center (New York City), Boston Mills, Hiram College's Kennedy Center, Kent State University, The University of Akron, The Arts Club of Washington (Washington, PA), and many others.
She is a past president of the Women's Art League of Akron and The Women's Art Club of Cleveland, a charter member of the Ohio Watercolor Society, a Signature member of the Akron Society of Artists, a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, and others.
She is listed in the Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Art, American Artists of Renown and many others, and is also on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Art. www.elinorekorowportraits.com
